All natural grass environment
- 7 Star Cattle Co. raises all its beef on a purely grass-fed environment throughout the cattle’s life.
- Our ranch does not use any synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides, ensuring the grazing environment is all natural. In addition to native browse, we also plant various cover crops including winterpeas, barley, oats, rye, triticale, wheat, hairy vetch, arrowleaf clover, crimson clover, daikon radish, sweet clover, turnips, winter rapeseed, alfalfa, berseem clover and sweet clover.
- The cattle are raised in a low stress environment. 7 Star Cattle Co.’s herd is comprised of South Poll cattle, which is a breed combining Angus, Hereford, Senepol and Barzona. The breed is known for its moderate frame and slick hair coat, making it ideal for hot, humid environments. The breed’s temperament is very gentle leading to low stress handling methods, which translates to better beef.
- 7 Star Cattle Co. sources all its steers as young calves from private breeders, or calves born on our ranch, and does not purchase any cattle at auctions. Having no cattle exposed to crowded auction environments leads to a heathier herd. Purchased calves are brought to our ranch at around six months of age and spend the remainder of their lives on our ranch where we can control the environment.
How 7 Star is Different
We raise our own cattle
- Our beef is all sourced from cattle that we raise from birth or from six months of age. Other beef producers will purchase steers that are ready for slaughter from other ranches. By raising our own cattle, we can know with certainty the environment the cattle have been exposed to throughout their life.
- Our South Poll genetics are best suited for the hot and humid Texas weather, ensuring our cattle are not stressed and therefore produce top quality beef.
- 7 Star Cattle Co. only selects its top steers for beef processing. Any cattle that are not the highest quality are culled from our herd and never reach our customer’s plates.
